Last week may be remembered as a key inflection point, marking the moment when euphoria surrounding Trump's Stargate AI project was challenged by concerns over DeepSeek's disruptive potential, raising questions about the American Exceptionalism thesis.
"All of a sudden, there's lots of talk about how DeepSeek could upend the American Exceptionalism thesis. I concede that it serves as a wake-up call for the incumbent AI enablers," Goldman Sachs head of hedge fund coverage, Tony Pasquariello, told clients in a note on Saturday.
Pasquariello continued, "Furthermore, as one of the greats pointed out, the AGI build is still in FRONT of us. if that's the big ball, then both champions and challengers have nothing but incentive to stay on the gas. to the point, I didn't see anything in this week's earnings reports to suggest that the mega caps are spitting the bit on their immense AI capex plans."
