Labor Day: A Holiday Against The American Spirit
Against The American Spirit
Regular readers may recall Will Tanner from his anarcho-tyranny thread I shared here last month.

Tanner's back today with a thoughtful thread on Labor Day in the American context, which I've shared below.
First, America, until the changes wrought by the Gilded Age, never really had "labor" as a large body of people who were in that condition for life

There were indentured servants, but they either died after a few years in the tough conditions or eventually completed their… pic.twitter.com/xtllQH617P
The mindset that made that happen was incredibly important to the American spirit. Colonial Americans and then early Americans didn't want to be beholden to anyone else

That meant that INDEPENDENCE, not just politically but spiritually, was important; the country was largely one… pic.twitter.com/DF0nzrqPx9
So, as working for someone else for a long time, if not life, was wholly foreign to the American mindset, the bosses imported immigrants by the boatful who would take those jobs, and the second wave of immigrants, largely Italian and Irish, hit Americas shores

Much of that could be avoided if we went back to some modern variation of the original American mindset, where jobs are treated as a way to get capital rather than as a lifelong position, and the goal is owning a farm or small business of some sort rather than always being at… pic.twitter.com/N8slZYo8vq

For more info on this, @ArbitrageAndy1 is a great resource. On turning the fruits of a job into a personal business, @BowTiedBull is great. The guys at @untappedgrowth are some of my favorites on reclaiming your independence from a system that hates you

The Original American Mindset
Tanner made a great point in that thread about the original American mindset:
[T]he original American mindset, where jobs are treated as a way to get capital rather than as a lifelong position, and the goal is owning a farm or small business of some sort rather than always being at someone's beck and call
I would expand that to investing as well. Two hundred years ago, Americans invested in the speculative tech stocks of their day, canal companies, and fifty years later, they would invest in the tech stocks of the mid-to-late 19th century, railroads. Today, we have biotech companies, but the impulse remains the same, to become a capitalist rather than a laborer.
On Friday, we placed three trades on biotech stocks, one of which is still open:
Our Three Biotech Trades Today
This was one of our four bullish trades last week. It dropped this week on news of subpar results on one of its drug candidates, but it has a number of other drugs in its pipeline and very strong fundamentals, including a valuation rating of 7, via Chartmill.
This one appeared on our top names last night, and has a valuation rating of 6, which is high for one of our top names, which tend not to be value names.
This one just got one of its drugs approved for Mpox (formerly known as Monkeypox, a disease targeting mostly gay men, but also some children and dogs recently).
